How GradeOnward handles account information, saved work and advertising.

Updated 19 October 2026

Who runs this website

GradeOnward is an independent student calculator and planning project. It is not a school, university, examining body or academic advising service. For questions about data or corrections, use the feedback page.

Calculations and guest saving

Calculations run in your browser. Guest calculator snapshots, study preferences and semester records are saved on your device when you choose to save them. Clearing browser storage can remove guest work. Use the export tools to keep a separate copy.

Optional accounts

Creating an account sends your name, email address and password to the GradeOnward account server. The server stores a salted password hash, not a readable password. Signed-in saved work includes calculator snapshots, course names, grade targets, attendance, tasks, availability, study logs, study preferences and motion settings. A saved presentation may include text you pasted into it.

A separate account cache in your browser holds pending changes when account saving is interrupted. The save-status message explains whether work is saved to the account or still waiting on this device. Signing out waits for pending saves and removes that account’s local cache. Guest work remains separate.

Where records are stored

Signed-in account records and saved progress are stored in a dedicated MySQL database on Hostinger. They can be loaded by signing in to GradeOnward from another device. Hosting and database services are provided by Hostinger. This is not an encrypted academic-record vault: academic records and browser caches are not encrypted by the application. Avoid adding information you do not need for planning.

Account access and recovery

An HTTP-only session cookie keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. You can sign out earlier. A recovery code is shown once after account creation and password reset. Keep it private. Resetting with that code changes the password, rotates the recovery code and revokes previous sign-in sessions. This version does not send verification or password-reset emails.

Advertising and Google

Advertising is currently off. This version does not load Google advertising scripts or set advertising cookies.

If advertising is enabled, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s advertising cookies can allow Google and its partners to personalize ads using visits across sites. Advertising services may receive technical information such as IP address, browser details and device identifiers.

GradeOnward does not put your account name, email, grades, task text or attendance into ad parameters. Sign-up, account, saved-plan and private semester pages are excluded from our ad placements. Account access never depends on clicking an advertisement.

You can manage Google’s personalized advertising through My Ad Center, learn how Google uses partner-site data at Google’s partner-site privacy information, and see industry opt-out options at YourAdChoices. Browser controls and these advertising preferences have different effects from deleting a GradeOnward account.

Consent and cookies

Before live advertising is enabled, a Google-certified consent message must be configured and tested for the intended audience, including the EEA, UK and Switzerland. Our integration waits for the consent platform before requesting manual ad units and skips those units if consent cannot be established. Privacy choices are managed by the actual consent platform, not by a GradeOnward imitation banner. See cookies and privacy choices for the current status.

Retention, exports and removal

Guest records remain until you remove them or clear browser storage. Account work remains on the account server until removed; sessions expire after their configured period. You can remove saved calculator plans, export account progress and use the semester backup tools. Clearing a browser cache does not delete server-side account records. For account-record removal or a data question, contact us through the feedback page. Full account deletion is not an automated feature of this preview.

Backups you download remain under your control. Operator database backups must be handled separately. The hosting provider manages backups according to the active hosting plan. Keep an exported copy of plans you need; restoration is not guaranteed for every individual change.

Other services and policy changes

There are no paid calculation APIs, analytics trackers or external font services in this build. Hostinger processes hosting and connection logs to operate and secure this website. See Hostinger’s privacy notice for provider details. We will update this notice before materially changing how information is handled.
