Grade needed calculator

Work backwards from a target to the average needed across all of your remaining coursework.

Your starting point

Example inputs

How it works

Required remaining average = (target − current grade × completed fraction) ÷ remaining fraction.

A worked example

If 65% of the course is graded at 74%, you need about 91.15% on the remaining 35% to finish at 80%.

Assumptions to check

The current grade is normalized over completed work. The result is a weighted average across remaining work, not a required score on every individual assignment.

A few useful answers

Can remaining assignments have different scores?

Yes. Different combinations can reach the same required weighted average. Compare a second scenario to explore your options.

What happens when everything is graded?

There is no remaining work to solve for. Use the weighted or points calculator to check your final course grade.

Planning estimates, not official academic results. Your course and institution set the rules.

MAKE THE ANSWER USEFUL

From this result to your next step.

Start with what is still ungraded

Choose a target course grade and the percentage of the course still available. Check that the current grade is normalized over completed work. If only 20% remains, a large change to the final course grade may no longer be possible.

Compare reachable outcomes

Treat a required average above 100% as an input check or a reason to reconsider the target. Do not assume extra credit or a resit unless the course explicitly allows it. Use a reachable outcome alongside your actual deadlines.
